MEMPHIS TIGERS WINS 3RD AAC WEST DIVISION TITLE

Memphis, TN – The University Of Memphis Tigers are the 2019 AAC West Champions! They defeated No. 18 Cincinnati Bearcats  34-24 at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, TN. The media showed favoritism by saying things like, “Why Cincinnati will beat Memphis”, and such way before the kickoff. Yet, everyone who doubted the Tigers were in for a rude awakening.

The kickoff returned by Chris Claybrook was an incredible 94- yard touchdown, which gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead. The lead grew to 17-3 before the Bearcats were able to wake up and respond. At the end of halftime, the Tigers lead the Bearcats 20-17. Coach Norvell then went into the playbook full of perfect schemes with Brady White. Brady White found Damonte Coxie for a 46 yard touchdown which gave Memphis a 27-17 lead.

Cincinnati answered by closing in on Memphis with 27-24 once Ben Bryant rushed in for a 12 yard touchdown. You’d think Tigers defense was exposed. Yet, the offense played by the rules and exposed the Bearcats emotional tension. The Tigers were on their own 38 on 3rd when Brady White’s pass was incomplete until Cincinnati’s Myjai Sanders was flagged for a unsportsmanlike conduct! Sadly for Cinnicinati, that gave Memphis plenty of yards to the 47 yard line. Within only a few plays later, Antonio Gibson rushed for 29 yards to the end-zone. The Memphis Tigers were able to hold on until the final with 34-24. The Tigers are the AAC West Champions for 3 consecutive years and broke the school’s record!

Be sure to catch the next Saturday’s championship game kick off at 2:30 p.m. on ABC.
