Memphis Tigers Women’s BB Wins 1 of 2 @ Bimini Division Tournament

BIMINI, BAHAMAS-  The University of Memphis Women’s Basketball (AAC) team played 2 games in the Bahamas for the Junkanoo Jam Tournament during the 2019 Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The ladies landed in Bimini and were ready for their 1st game against (BIG 12)  Kansas State. The Lady Tigers held their competitor off by winning , 72-68.

All 9 of the Tigers scored within the game! For instance, sophomore, Jamirah Shutes led in scoring with 27 points. Tigers junior, Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her second career double-double.  Along with Senior, Gazmyne Herndon 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists for Memphis. The Lady Tigers really put in work to hold off Kansas State winning the 1st Round of the Junkanoo Jam. Fast forward……Tigers did advanced to the Bimini Division’s Championship Game against (SEC) LSU, but failed to bring home the trophy.

Memphis Tigers weren’t defensive enough in the Bimini Division’s Championship Game at the Junkanoo Jam against LSU. The ladies lost 89-58. Memphis finished the Junkanoo Jam with a 1-1 overall record, so we’re sill proud of them.

 Jamirah Shutes was announced to play in the All-Tournament Team after averaging 20.1 points both games and led with 4 assist against LSU. Give it up for Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu and Gazmyne Herndon for their double-digit performances in both games this week. Due note that Mendjiadeu finished with 12 points and Herndon 11 points.

The Memphis Tigers returned home to Memphis with a 4-4 overall record, which isn’t a bad start. The Tigers plays Dec. 8 at home against UAB Blazers @ 2 p.m.
