FULL SECTION: Paul Peterson Adoption Fraud Scheme
The Board of Supervisors issued the following statement on Thursday:
“Due to the serious nature of these allegations and out of respect for the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office, each member of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors calls for the resignation of County Assessor Paul Petersen. Petersen’s prompt resignation will ensure his legal issues don’t distract him from leading the County Assessor’s Office. The Board will continue to provide the necessary resources and leadership to the Assessor’s Office so the team can remain focused on providing excellent customer service to the residents of Maricopa County.”
Since Petersen is an elected official, he would have to step down from the role. So, even if constituents demand a replacement, the Board of Supervisors ask and Republican political operatives plead with him, none of it matters.
Whether or not Petersen steps down because of the crimes he is accused of committing is his decision alone to make.
Petersen is being held on a $500,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 15 at 8:30 a.m.
